Meet Our Residents

Paddington
Paddington is the sweetest cow you'll ever meet!! We found him when he was 1.5 years old, advertised on craigslist by a family in Pennsylvania. He and his brother were bottle raised for meat and his brother was butchered in front of poor little Paddington. That was a very traumatic event for Paddington. When we went to bring him home to the sanctuary, it took three hours to get him to go onto the trailer. He was so scared of everyone. When he arrived, we gave him time and space to venture out of the trailer on his own terms. After a while he tentatively stepped out and the first thing he did was go over to the fence line to see the goats! It took a week before he would let us get close enough to touch him. Over the next few months, he blossomed into a very curious and affectionate cow. He is smart and always watching what we are doing. When we are out in the field working he will come over to say hello. He LOVES to be brushed, so plan to spend some time pampering him when you come visit.

Georgie
Georgie and her entire herd (including 13 other horses) were rescued by the ASPCA from Wisconsin. They were starving and neglected in someone's backyard there. When Georgie was rescued she was only 3 years old and pregnant. Days End Farm in Maryland helped her gain weight and give birth to her baby. There, her foal and the entire herd were adopted...for some reason, Georgie was the last one left waiting for a home! Our hearts melted when we met her and we knew that she would fit right in here at Paddington's Farm. She immediately took her spot as the alpha leader of the farm. She bosses over Ellie and Paddington, but she has a real soft spot for Basil and will let him share her food!

Ellie
Ellie is a sweet, beautiful 15-year-old mare. Before Ellie came to Paddington's Farm she was a race horse. Our vet looked up the tattoo number that is on her lip and found out that Ellie raced seven times and didn't do very well. She was then picked up by a woman who was determined to find good homes for ex-racehorses. Not uncommon for thoroughbred horses, Ellie tends to have hoof issues and stomach ulcers. She loves to eat her hay by dunking it into the water bucket first! Sometimes she isn't in the mood for pets, so we make sure to listen to her (by watching her ears) and respecting her space when she isn't feeling so great.

Merida
Merida was rescued from a hoarding case in Louisa, Virginia where she was used for breeding. She was 5 years old and was pregnant with Gronk and Brady when she was rescued in 2019. Her boys were born while she was in foster care. Merida loves people and kids of all sizes, and will stand with an expression of pure relaxation when she is brushed! Merida and her boys came to Paddington's Farm in spring of 2019. They love to eat wild blackberry brambles, willow tree clippings, and bamboo!

Brady
Brady is a bit of a rebel! He is smaller than his twin brother, but causes double the trouble! He is the pushiest of the bunch and insists on rubbing his head on your leg. He is very obstinate, and will drop down to his knees if you try to lead him somewhere on a rope. Then he will sit there cutely eating grass while refusing to get up--so cute that you can't get upset with him!

Gronk
Gronk loves everyone and jumps at any opportunity to make a new friend. He sneaks out of the paddock any chance he gets and mosys over to the barn to say hello to the horses and nibble on the hay in there. Gronk is big but very gentle with people, although he does love some good head butting playtime with his brother and his mom.
